PublicRadioFan.com Guides Listeners to Radio Programs

Ever tune in to your local public radio or talk radio station, only to find you weren't interested in what they were talking about? Is the current on-air fundraiser getting on your nerves? Well now there's a solution: PublicRadioFan.com. This free Internet radio program guide lets you see, at a glance, what's playing on a large number of public radio stations across the globe. Then, when you see a show that interests you, you simply click on the provided link, and the live stream is launched in your media player. A little icon next to each stream tells you the audio format: RealAudio, Windows Media Player, or MP3.

The shows include major syndicated NPR shows (e.g., Car Talk, This American Life), public radio programs from other networks (PRI, BBC, Pacifica Radio), music and arts programs, and news and public affairs programs from around the globe. Links are also provided to program and/or station Web pages.

The site is well designed, with numerous options to customize the display. You can opt to display music shows only, or non-music shows only. You can set favorite stations and preferred media player formats. A search feature lets you search stations by name, location, format, and language. It should be noted that the progam guide tells you the program that is playing, but not the specifics of the current day's program. Even so, this site provides a valuable service. Program guides like this make it much easier to take advantage of the rich programming available via Internet radio.

The site was created by Kevin Kelly, a high school math and computer science teacher from Arlington, Massachusetts. Though the site is free, donations are accepted.
